Preparing for a Professional Treatment

Fourteen days prior to your appointment, refrain from:

  • Having a chemical peel
  • Sun tanning or tanning in a tanning booth
  • Having a wax or chemical depilatory treatment
  • Getting neurotoxin or dermal filler injections (two days prior)
  • Avoid sun exposure, especially in the 10 days prior to and after treatment

If you are prone to cold sores, start antiviral medication one day prior and take it five to seven days after treatment. It is recommended to delay the use of tretinoin, Retin-A®, Renova®, Differin®, Tazorac®, Avage®, EpiDuo®, Ziana®, and high-percentage AHA and BHA products for two days prior to treatment.

MD Peel and Perfect Derma Peel Post-Procedure Care

This regimen is designed to protect and heal the barrier after any medium-depth professional peel treatment. It will soothe and protect the skin, reduce inflammation, and speed recovery post-procedure. For up to seven days post-procedure:

  • Stay cool! Heating internally can cause hyperpigmentation and blistering.
  • Do not put the treated area directly into a hot shower spray.
  • Do not use hot tubs, steam rooms, or saunas.
  • Do not go swimming.
  • Do not participate in activities that would cause excessive perspiration.
  • Do not use loofahs or other means of mechanical exfoliation.
  • Do not direct a hair dryer on the treated area.
  • Do not apply ice or ice water to the treated area.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat.
  • Use an occlusive barrier product and the appropriate broad-spectrum SPF for daily UV protection.
  • Do not pick or pull on any loosening or exfoliating skin. This could potentially cause hyperpigmentation.
  • Do not go to a tanning booth for at least two weeks post-procedure. (This practice should be discontinued altogether, due to the increased risk of skin cancer and signs of aging.)
  • It is recommended to delay use of tretinoin, RetinA®, Differin®, Renova®, Tazorac®, Avage®, EpiDuo®, or Ziana® for at least seven days postprocedure. Consult the physician before temporarily discontinuing the use of any prescription medications.
  • Do not have neurotoxin or filler injections for approximately seven days or electrolysis, facial waxing, or depilatories for approximately 14 days.
